It’s only a matter of time before Hollywood movie producers want me to film their movies! I had my first attempt at filming eye images this week for my third piece. At first I started with my friends at uni then other people at uni wanted to know what I was doing and wanted to be a part of it too...Filming really brings people together! It went well. For my third piece I am envisioning the start of the Brady Bunch show where they are all in their individual section of the T.V. I found it very intriguing that a television show from the late sixties and early seventies was able to produce such images.
I want to have nine different eyes blinking, fast slow, coloured, black and white, moving, still... All different to create a short video image. This idea came from the Salvador Dali Exhibition in 2009. I was most inspired by his work in the Alfred Hitchcock movie "Spellbound". I have never done anything like this before so I am a little bit excited!
Salvador Dali's work in "Spellbound" can be seen on YouTube:

During our workshop we looked at many different video artists. It was interesting to discover that video art began as early as the 1950's with Wolf Vostell. He used a television set with one of his works, "Deutscher Ausblick" which he created in 1959.
Video art can be confused as the same as film and television. While some techniques may be used in film and television that have been derived from video art it is not the same. Video art does not always include actors, a plot or dialogue. "It is more an exploration of the medium," (Wikipedia, 2010).
Next week I will use the images I have filmed and copy them to the computer where I will use final cut pro to edit and create my short video piece. I am thinking along the lines of some creepy music. After seeing a students work today where she created her own movie and made her own music I am feeling a little bit inadequate and feel I need to really step it up. I know it is not a competition however seeing her work really raised the standard for the class. I think is a great thing because then people are constantly striving to be better in their own art...
